Red Fort hosts 400 elected leaders for Independence Day

The Government of India has invited around 400 Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) and Elected Representatives (ERs) from Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to participate in the 78th Independence Day celebrations at the historic Red Fort in Delhi.

Among the distinguished invitees is Smt. Lhakit Lepcha, Panchayat Sabhapati of Tingvong GPU from North Sikkim, who has been specially invited to attend the event as a Special Guest. Her inclusion highlights the government’s commitment to empowering local leaders and promoting inclusivity in the democratic process.

Smt. Lepcha will also take part in a national workshop on women’s leadership, tailored for female representatives of PRIs. The workshop, scheduled for August 14, 2024, in New Delhi, aims to enhance leadership skills and address the unique challenges faced by women in local governance.

The Union Minister of Panchayati Raj and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh (alias Lalan Singh), along with the Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, will honor the EWRs and ERs at a special ceremony at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi.
